Many American's refunds are delayed due to the IRS holding nearly 30M tax returns for manual processing.
Some are taking the IRS 6-8 weeks in 2021
Why?
Any inconsistencies between the IRS’s records for stimulus checks, or Economic Impact Payments, along with the Recovery Rebate Credit on a taxpayer’s 2020 return require a manual review and corrections before processing.
There's a backlog of unprocessed paper tax returns and amendments from 2019 and 2020.
IRS did not have time to prepare for some of the tax code changes before the delayed filing season began Feb. 12.
